Located at the junction of Wehr and Morganthaler Roads in Overpeck Ohio is Hickory Flat Cemetery, a seemingly calm and peaceful resting place. But rumor has it that it is haunted by the "Hatchet Man"

One urban legend says that the groundskeeper was murdered by a man with an hatchet and now he wonders around the cemetery and surrounding Wehr Road with the same hatchet that killed him with a lust for blood, Another legend cites the murders of Sarah and her children by Jacob Yargus who was incarcerated at the times of the murder, and that the farmhouse they were murdered in is on Wehr Road in proximity of the cemetery.

While I have been out to the cemetery quite a few times over the years, I have never seen anything remotely out of the normal here. I actually have family out here, my grandfather, and a few uncles call Hickory Flats home. That being said, as a teenager we visited Wehr Road and the cemetery looking for the "Hatchet Man", mostly when intoxicated to some degree. One hot summer night we did run into a Highway Patrolman, who told us sternly to leave. So we did, exactly what he asked. Since we had been drinking, one of my buddies had to use the restroom so I turned by the old highschool and stopped in the middle of the road. It is about 1 am in the morning, and no one is around. My buddy stands in the middle of the road, with his back to us to take a leak. Next thing I know, here comes the cop, with his lights on right in front of my buddy while he is still taking a leak. So I did what any good friend would do......drove off...then turned around, threw out the alcohol, and then picked up my buddy who then informed us that we had 10 minutes to get out of Trenton or we all were going to spend the night in jail.
