Nestled in a valley along side the Little Miami River is the remnants of the Peters Cartridge Company. Founded in 1887 from the Great Western Powder Works which was on both sides of the river. The shot tower shown was built in 1895 while most of the other brick and mortar structures where built between 1916 and 1919 funded by ammunition contracts due to World War I.
Peters Cartridge has had a colorful past. It was bought by Remington Arms in 1934 and Columbia Records, Seagrams distillery, and an multitude of small companies have taken tenancy over the years also. A couple of movies, some music videos and photo shoots have also taken place there. Today a cleanup project is taking place in order to remove lead, mercury and other contamenents from the soil. There is also talk about converting the factory into high end lofts. I personally wish them all the luck with that project because a building with this cool of architecture and intriguing history should be preserved.

Peters Cartridge Company - Main Entrance |
Over the years there have been numerous instances of explosions causing injury and death. None as devastating as the one that occurred on July 15th of 1890 when a couple train cars collided setting off a multiple of explosions that ended with 11 dead, multitudes grotesquely maimed, and the majority of the timber buildings nothing more than smoldering ashes.

Peters Cartridge Company - Haunted? |
It is no wonder with the dark history of Peters Cartridge Company, that people have reported ghostly phenomenon. A dark past of that magnitude must leave some sort of impression. Some of the reports include hearing voices, footsteps and witnessing things moving for no apparently good reason. There also have been many reports of human like figures peering out the windows as you pass by.

Peters Cartridge - easy access for trespassers |
An apparently abandoned building, in a secluded area, only marginally secured is a perfect target for those up to mischief or illegal activities. Over the years I have heard many rumors of people using this area for Satanic rituals and whatever other activities that satanists partake in.

Peters Cartridge Company - Satanic Haven? |
After hearing the many rumors of Satanic Rituals when I was a teenager, back in the 90's, we got together a couple car loads of people together and headed out. We arrived there somewhere around midnight and all got out to what looked like a deserted compound. The only thing we observed was a single small light at the other end of the building. So we got out and just hung out. After about 10 minutes the light went off...and a minute later a handful of cars were heading straight for us, so we hopped in the cars and they chased us until we got in the general area of Kings Island and then all of a sudden they all turned off at once.
